Firm favourite for the Old Trafford hot seat, Holland manager Louis Van Gaal has confirmed his interest in the job and hit out at critics that feel his is too old for the position.
Van Gaal has been linked with the United job for the past 2 months and United have previously had to deny meeting with the 62 year old to discuss the role. Now David Moyes has been relieved of his duties, Van Gaal has been installed as bookie’s favourites to take over from the Scot.
A number of other names have been mentioned, all younger than Van Gaal who many believe at the age of 62 may not be what United need in terms of continuity but the eclectic Dutchman has fired back at his critics claiming his CV makes him as good as any of the candidates.
Van Gaal is quoted as saying in The Sun:
“No I didn’t meet them (Manchester United). Am I young enough for the job. I think you can see that in my CV?”
It’s widely believed that it is a matter of time before Van Gaal’s appointment is announced, a number of news outlets are already reporting it and he may be an excellent short term option before the likes of Klopp, Mourinho or even Giggs are ready to assume the role.
