Man United Could Sign Brilliant Barca Star On The Cheap

Manchester United could move for Barcelona great Xavi according to reports suggesting the Catalan club are planning a team overhaul.

The 34 year old midfielder has been at the heart of Barcelona’s midfield for well over a decade, making his debut in 1998 under Louis Van Gaal, then taking over from Pep Guardiola in Barcelona’s engine room back in the 1999-2000 season.

Since he has gone on to become one of the best midfielders ever retaining possession and picking out teammates with his brilliant range of passing.

Compared to Paul Scholes, Xavi could come to United and do a similar job to Scholes in the latter stages of his career. With 2 years left on his current deal and his age, he could be secured for a cut price according to The Daily Star, on wages in the £150k p/w bracket.

United aren’t the only team interested though, and will face competition from Arsenal and Man City, who will hope to use Txiki Begiristain to secure Xavi’s signature.

Xavi had been linked with a move to New York City but a move to the Premier League offers more in terms of prestige and competition.
