Bastian Schweinsteiger

Talk of a Manchester United move for Bastian Schweinsteiger have gathered pace after Graham Hunter told talkSPORT that Pep Guardiola has made the midfielder is available.

Having passed on a number of midfielders it was claimed that the German international was Louis Van Gaal had made the Bayern star his number one target.

It seemed unlikely given Schweinsteiger’s position in the team as vice captain but just shy of his 30th birthday with 2 years left on his current contract, it appears he could leave the Allianz Arena.

Schweinsteiger has previously spoken of a desire to play in the Premier League, specifically at Manchester United at the behest of his brother who is a supporter of the club, and he may fulfil that wish if Hunter’s comments prove correct.

Speaking to talkSport, the journalist and author claimed:

“Pep Guardiola does want to move Schweinsteiger on.

“He feels Schweinsteiger doesn’t move the ball quickly enough for the brand of football he’s trying to implicate.”

Given Van Gaal’s history at Bayern and with Schweinsteiger, United would hope to find themselves at the front of the queue but as the club will have known, a lack of European football could hinder any move for the dynamic midfielder.
