Paul Scholes believes Louis Van Gaal can take United youngster Jesse Lingard to the next level next season.
The 21 year old has been threatening to break into the United first team since stealing the show for Manchester United during pre season last summer.
Excelling at u21 level, Lingard underwent two loan spells with Birmingham and Brighton, impressing in both. With 10 combined goals for both teams, Lingard is likely to get another shot during pre season this year and Scholes believes that with Van Gaal’s history in mind he could finally get his chance under the Dutch man.
Speaking in his weekly Paddy Power column, the former United midfield maestro stated:
“Jesse Lingard has been out on loan at a couple of places now and I think he’s got a great future. With the new manager coming in, he likes to use young players like Jesse.
“I think he could really burst onto the scene next season with a bit of luck.”
Lingard was involved in the first team at points last season, travelling with the squad for games but is yet to make his competitive debut.
Sir Alex Ferguson told Lingard and his father that he expected the player to break into the first team at 22 and he could very well do so before, as he will be turning 22 in December.
