Goalkeeper - Hugo Lloris

With the departure of David De Gea for Real Madrid seeming more imminent by the day, Manchester United will surely be in the market for another goalkeeper to supplement the talents of Victor Valdes.

Valdes has certainly proven himself in the past week with a strong showing against Hull City in United’s Premier League finale, but with just a year left on his contract could also be a good bartering chip for the club. Even if Valdes stays, the Red Devils may have to secure another big name to fill the void left by the young Spaniard.

Enter Hugo Lloris. The 28-year-old has impressed at Tottenham this season with 35 Premier League games under his belt. Lloris’ experience, youth and clean sheet record make him an obvious candidate for the position at Old Trafford, but just in case you needed any more convincing, here are some things you may not know about the French star.

1. He Once ‘Forced’ Harry Kane to Play in Goal

In Tottenham’s victory over Asteras Trip in October, Lloris was sent off with under 10 minutes to play. Spurs were out of substitutes, and Harry Kane had to play in goal for the subsequent penalty kick – which he conceded. Luckily, the Lilywhites were already 5-0 up and ended up running out 5-1 winners.

2. He was an Early Developer

Lloris signed with his local club in Nice, France when he was just 10-years-old. He originally began as a tennis player, but following in the footsteps of his idol, Danish star Peter Schmeichel, he began what would become a glittering career between the sticks.

3. Manchester United Have Shown Interest Before

The Red Devils were eyeing Lloris for a while prior to his move to the Premier League from Lyon back in 2012, but switched at the last minute to pursue De Gea. Now, the Frenchman finds himself possibly being the object of Manchester United’s affection once again.

4. Friends in High Places

Lloris’ 2012 wedding to his wife Marine was officiated by the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi. Estrosi himself had an impressive motorcycling career and has competed in the Grand Prix.

5. Both Ends of the Pitch

A training video released by the French national team shows that Lloris can score goals just as well as he can defend them. At this point, his talents could even come in handy for Louis van Gaal’s side if United’s offensive woes cannot be cured. Take a look.
