If pressed for one image to sum up Manchester United’s 2014-15 campaign, it may be tempting to select a photograph of Angel di Maria with his face buried in his shirt. Or maybe just one of Louis van Gaal’s head exploding as Falcao spurns yet another chance.

Fans have despaired over United’s disappointing form in front of goal this season, with di Maria failing to meet expectations and Wayne Rooney shifted back to midfield in the wake of Michael Carrick’s injury.

The team as a whole scored just 62 goals, foregoing the much-hyped fireworks and instead offering an inconsistent performance akin to a sad birthday sparkler.

Nonetheless, van Gaal’s top-heavy squad still showed glimpses of brilliance at times.

So, with that in mind, here are the top goals from the season according to The Busby Way…

1. Juan Mata— v. Liverpool, March 22

2. Angel di Maria— v. Leicester City, September 21

3. Wayne Rooney— v. Aston Villa, April 4
