Player Ratings: Man Utd vs Tottenham as De Ligt Rescues Dramatic Late Draw

November 24, 2025
Manchester United escaped north London with a point after Matthijs de Ligt scored a 96th-minute equaliser in a breathless 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur. The result halted United’s run of four straight defeats to Spurs and came at the end of a chaotic closing spell that saw both sides come close to sealing all three points.

United struck first shortly after the half-hour mark following a defensive lapse from the home side. Tottenham failed to clear their lines inside their own penalty area, allowing the visitors to recycle possession. Amad Diallo sent a precise ball back into the box, where Bryan Mbeumo slipped behind Pedro Porro and nodded in at the far post to give United a deserved lead.

Tottenham responded with greater intensity after the break and carved out several chances. Cristian Romero came close when he flicked on a Wilson Odobert cross, but goalkeeper Senne Lammens reacted sharply with a save using his feet. Moments later, the Belgian keeper raised a strong arm to push away a half-volley from Joao Palhinha as Spurs increased the pressure.

The hosts thought they had levelled when Brennan Johnson fired into the net, but the assistant referee immediately raised the flag for a clear offside. Tottenham continued to probe and eventually found their breakthrough with just six minutes left. Odobert skipped past Manuel Ugarte too easily before sliding a pass to Destiny Udogie, whose low cross reached Mathys Tel. The French forward swivelled quickly and placed his finish beyond Lammens to make it 1-1.

United then had a golden chance to reclaim the lead. Benjamin Sesko was released by Mason Mount and found himself one-on-one, but he hesitated, allowing Micky van de Ven to produce a perfectly timed recovery tackle. Sesko was injured in the challenge and had to limp off, leaving United to finish the match with ten men after all substitutions had already been made.

Tottenham capitalised almost immediately during stoppage time. United failed to clear a corner, and the loose ball fell to Odobert on the edge of the area. His curling strike took a glancing touch off Richarlison and flew past the helpless Lammens, putting Spurs ahead in the 91st minute.

But the drama was far from over. United pushed forward in the final seconds and won a late corner. Bruno Fernandes delivered a dangerous ball to the back post, where de Ligt rose above his marker and forced a header over the line by inches. The Dutch defender’s late heroics sealed a point for United and prevented Spurs from climbing to second place in the Premier League table ahead of Manchester City’s meeting with Liverpool.

Patrick Dorgu – 7/10
A confident performance down the flank, containing Tottenham’s threats and helping United progress play. Substituted as United attempted to protect their lead.

Amad Diallo – 7/10
Provided the assist for Mbeumo’s opener and worked hard throughout. Later shifted to wing-back after tactical changes.

Bryan Mbeumo – 7/10

Matheus Cunha – 6/10
Operated as a false nine and linked play in phases but struggled for consistency. Replaced in the second half.

United’s dramatic late equaliser summed up a game filled with momentum swings, defensive lapses and decisive interventions. While neither side walked away with a victory, both delivered a compelling spectacle — and United will view de Ligt’s last-gasp header as a moment that could spark renewed resilience heading into the next phase of their season.
