Fulham defender Joachim Andersen suffered a painful hand injury during the club’s Premier League victory over Nottingham Forest at Craven Cottage.
The Denmark international was involved in a first-half collision with Forest forward Igor Jesus that left him with a visibly dislocated finger.
Television footage showed Andersen’s left ring finger bent out of place, prompting immediate medical attention on the pitch.
The incident occurred less than 24 minutes into the contest, briefly halting play as treatment was administered.
Despite the severity of the injury, Andersen remained on the field after the finger was snapped back into position and strapped.
Defensive Stand Despite Early Setback
Andersen was starting at the heart of Fulham’s defence with regular centre-back partner Calvin Bassey absent on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Nigeria.
The 29-year-old went on to complete the full 90 minutes, helping the Cottagers secure a 1-0 clean-sheet win.
Cameras captured the defender wincing as treatment was carried out, with Jesus standing nearby and offering an apology.
Sky Sports commentators noted that Andersen appeared unable to look at his hand once he realised the extent of the injury.
Former Chelsea and England goalkeeper Rob Green, on co-commentary duty, expressed sympathy for the Fulham defender, drawing on his own experiences with hand injuries.
Jimenez Delivers Again from the Spot
Fulham’s win was sealed by Raul Jimenez, who converted a second-half penalty to secure all three points.
The Mexico international maintained his flawless Premier League penalty record.
Jimenez has now successfully converted 11 spot-kicks in the competition, matching Manchester City legend Yaya Toure’s record in the Premier League era.
The goal proved decisive in a tight contest where chances were limited.
Silva Praises Professional Performance
Fulham head coach Marco Silva praised his side’s game management after the final whistle.
“The result, 100%, is a massive three points and a massive win,” Silva said.
“It wasn’t our best performance, but I don’t remember one chance for Forest all game.”
“They had the possession but didn’t create and we managed the game well.”
“It was a professional performance from our team.”
Silva also highlighted Jimenez’s composure from the penalty spot.
“He’s reliable,” Silva said.
“The calmness, the quality, the braveness to wait until the last moment for the goalkeeper to move.”
Injury Concerns and January Plans
Silva provided an update on midfielder Harry Wilson, who was forced off late in the match after a heavy challenge.
He said Wilson “looks like he’s going to be okay” despite the knock.
With injuries mounting and several players away at the Africa Cup of Nations, Silva admitted Fulham may need to strengthen in January.
“We have been speaking not just now, the last month and a half, probably,” he said.
“After the last summer, things that we were supposed to do, we didn’t.”
“The African Cup we knew was going to happen, but of course the injury of Rodrigo as well created a completely different scenario for us.”
“We know what we need. Let’s see.”
