According to reports in Belgium, Man United have signed 18 year old full back Marnick Vermijl from Standard de Liège.

But who exactly is he?

An under 18 international, Vermijl has signed on a 3 year contract and will cost United €22o,ooo in compensation. Details about the deal are still sketchy but it has been reported that Liège were not happy when they found out that he had been talking with United and banned him from training with the first team.

Belgium news have reported that he was looked at no less than 11 times by Sir Alex, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and former Antwerp manager and current Man United reserves assistant manager, Warren Joyce before they agreed that Vermijl was indeed a player of some potential and a deal was struck.

Vermijl began his career at RC Peer but after joining Bocholt VV moved to Liège in 2008. He usually operates as a right back but can also play all across the back line as he is both footed. Physically imposing, Vermijl isn’t afraid to use his size when he plays standing 1m80 tall. The Belgian loves to get forward too similar to the man who he will be competing with for the LB spot, Patrice Evra.
