Manchester United’s England captain Rio Ferdinand has been given six spinal injections as part of a pioneering medical procedure to save his World Cup dream.

West Ham and Manchester United are battling it out for 16-year-old Paraguayan starlet Juan Iturbe of Cerro Porteno.

Sir Alex Ferguson has done little to defuse his personal feud with Rafael Benitez ahead of Manchester United’s clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday, saying: “Rafa doesn’t have relationships with anybody.”

    Back in August I didn’t really think we needed Villa as he’s quite short and I thought we needed a taller, quicker player but seeing Rooney improving his aerial game and putting header’s in left, right and centre, maybe we don’t need a taller, pacier forward. Rooney and Villa could become the best strike partnership since Cole and Yorke. Fergie knows best and if he decides to get him, I’ll be happy.

    I think Villa just oozes class, he looks like a proper goalscorer that can bang them in anywhere. I just hope this is true.
