So amidst all the talk of Berbatov been shipped off to AC Milan an interesting aside has popped up that any move will be dependant on Klaus Jan Huntelaar joining us as part of the deal.

Now don’t get me wrong, I was a massive fan of Huntelaar when he was at Ajax and I remember being firmly in his corner when arguing with friends and fellow fans about who we should buy between him and Benzema but that was a while ago and he has gone on to endure two less than spectacular stints at Real Madrid and AC Milan.

To be fair he hasn’t been given the best of chances at either club but is Huntelaar what we really need right now?

The Huntelaar we were interested in previously was an awesome goal machine and his record in Holland speaks for it’s self but he just wasn’t able to replicate his form in Spain and Italy, even when given a chance (his second leg miss against us in the Champions League this season was unforgivable!)

Huntelaar was declared the heir to Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s throne but the spells at Real and AC Milan have caused him to lose some of his lustre. I could be wrong and if we do get him he might fit into the team and form the kind of partnership that Ruud and Wayne had but even saying that, this season Wayne has flourished in the box rather than roaming as he did with Van Nistelrooy and probably would with Huntelaar as Huntelaar is more of an inbox striker.

I think Huntelaar can still score goals at the top level, the service he could get from Nani and Valencia on the wings could bring out the best in him but is it worth taking the risk? Even more importantly is it worth destabilising Rooney just to fit him in?

I and most United fans would prefer to see a more mobile, dynamic striker brought in instead. So don’t settle for Huntelaar because he is there and available, instead if we are able to get the £20m quoted take it and look around for the best option before making a decision.

THIS HUNTELAAR IS NO MORE THE ONE WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE IN OUR TEAM,BEING PLAYED IN THE SHADOWS OF GREAT PLAYERS HE HAS LOST THE DEADLY INSTINCT OF SCORING GOALS,BENZEMA IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE.SO SUAREZ WILL BE THE RIGHT ANSWER FOR OUR ATTACKING FORCE.TAKE NOTES SIR ALEX,DON”T GET CAUGHT ONCE MORE(BERBATOV),GO FOR SUAREZ…

Mobile skillful players who can p[lay across the front are what we need. Unless we can pull another Drogba or Torres from somewhere I am not sure a slower conventional man up front is what we need.

i think we should go full steam ahead for PATO, rooney and pato would be deadly together, pace, skill, versitility, they would destroy any defense. pato will be expensive but money well spent.

If it is possible at all, Pato would be an amazing addition, don’t see it happening though. Would love to see goal scoring midfielders who are not averse one-two touch play!

Pato is basically impossible, AC Milan probably won’t sell and if they do it will be for more than the £40m we balked at when it came to Villa.
The only hope is because of his age we might loosen the purse strings.

I agree Elvido, midfield is an area that actually requires more attention than up front.

Would love to see a Gourcouff, Defour or the likes come in. Even Van Der Vaart would give us some options with flair.

  7. He may be low on confidence and out of favour at Milan but Huntelaar’s not that bad a player – he was actually a pretty good goalscorer for Real Madrid and his main problem was getting in the side ahead of the likes of van Nistelrooy and Higuain. Given a first team run and good service there’s no doubt he could still be a good goalscorer, Milan aren’t exactly creative these days though.

Berbatov’s disappointed me at United and the best way of making a decent price for him is a part exchange deal. Obviously Rooney shouldn’t be moved to accomodate a player when he’s in top form but you’re low on strikers as it is and it wouldn’t be a bad thing to have Huntelaar waiting in the wings instead of Berbatov, I think it’d be an improvement
