If you read today’s newspapers you will see that there is some interesting news and gossip on the United front.
Firstly, reports in Spain suggest that Barcelona’s holding midfielder Yaya Toure is on his way to the Premier League. Toure, who is the younger brother of Manchester City’s Kolo Toure has been one of Barcelona’s most important players in recent years, but has strangely fallen out of favour at the Camp Nou. His agent Dimitri Seluk has stated that an agreement with an unknown English club is already in place and therefore his man will be playing in the Premier league come the start of next season:
“If everything goes well, Yaya will go to England,”. But we can’t talk about definite clubs. We already have a closed deal, and all will be resolved before the World Cup.”
Toure’s agent was talking to Ona FM.
Toure has been linked with United throughout the year and it is believed Fergie is keen on securing the midfielder’s signature. However, the 27 year old has been linked with Arsenal and some reports have suggested that he could be used as a makeweight in Barca’s protracted efforts to lure Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas back to Catalunya. Most recently Man City have shown a keen interest, but it is still unknown which club the Ivorian is set to sign for – lets hope it’s United!

In other news, Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to re-kindle his interest in Croatian play maker Luka Modric. Fergie, has been keen on the Spurs ace for some time and is rumoured to be willing to offer three of his United players in return for securing Modric’s signature. Michael Carrick, Anderson and Tomasz Kuszczak are apparently the players who are in the frame to be axed by Fergie. Modric has only just signed a six year extension to his contract in an act to scare off the threat of United. However, this won’t stop Fergie’s pursuit of his man.
Spurs manager and close friend of Sir Alex, Harry Redknapp has told the United boss that Modric is staying at White Hart Lane:
“There’s no chance of it happening at all. Luka’s key to everything that’s happening at this place. Everybody knows what I think of him. And if you want to move on to higher levels you don’t start flogging off your best players – to anyone.” – The Sun

United veteran Paul Scholes had admitted that he would have returned to the England side have Fabio Capello asked him earlier. The United midfielder retired from international football back in 2004, but was asked to come out of retirement to help England’s chances in the World Cup, but he chose not to take up the offer:
“It’s a big decision and I wasn’t really given enough time to think about it, so I decided not to take up the offer. If they’d asked me earlier I probably would have accepted.” he told the Oldham Evening Chronicle.
The ex-England international will now take the opportunity to spend time with his family and prepare for what could be his final season at the Theatre of Dreams.

On a sour note, United’s talented winger Nani has been ruled out of the World Cup. The Portuguese international damaged his collarbone in training on Friday. It’s a blow for the wing wizard who recently had his best season in a United shirt. He will now be trying to regain his fitness ready for the start of the 2010/2011 Premier League campaign. Ruben Amorim has been called up as his replacement.
