On Saturday news broke that Anderson had been injured in a car crash, details were sketchy but at the time a lot of United fans were just happy to hear he was OK.

But on Sunday when more details emerged about the accident there was a collective groan as the picture became clearer.

It was claimed the young Brazilian had been driving, presumably drunk, from a club when at 7am he crashed his Audi R8 car although it was later revealed a friend was at the wheel. To make the matter worse he had packed 2 more people into the vehicle meaning that there were 3 people in what is essentially a 2 seater car.

Reports claim that he was pulled from the car unconscious moments before it exploded although having seen the car:

I think it may have been a slight exaggeration.

Regardless of the state of his car, this is surely another and possibly the final nail in the coffin of Anderson’s United career. I’m a big Anderson fan and have defended him numerous times on the site as we all agree that he has heaps of talent but just needs to adjust his attitude. Following the injury to his cruciate ligament last term many had hoped he would go away comeback fit and in better shape having lost that extra pound or two he appeared to be carrying and with a better attitude but this latest episode appears we were slightly over optimistic.

Anderson came touted as the new Ronaldinho when we first signed him and although I couldn’t see the similarities, it appears these people weren’t talking about playing styles.

There has never been any doubt about Anderson and his ability, when playing his best Anderson is a joy to watch and fans love him for his energetic displays but it appears he is content in letting his talents go to waste in favour of enjoying life, which will be to the chagrin of Sir Alex.

It was already being speculated that Anderson could be left out of our 25 man squad for the season until at least January and this won’t help his cause. He isn’t the first player to go out clubbing even in pre-season but it’s the fact that he has been out injured and meant to be getting fit in order to come back healthy psychologically as well as physically.

It remains to be seen what will happen with Anderson, there have been flare ups during his United career, he volunteered to go down to the reserves to show his commitment at the start of the season and then was sent after allegedly going AWOL at the start of the year but this is the biggest of them all. Maybe this will be the event that makes him take stock of his fortunate position and thus pull up his socks.

reports say he wasnt driving, his friend was. should be thankful ando is ok rather than trying to build pessism on his unfortunate last 6 months. hes a quality player who is still very young. and as for his comparison to ronaldinho, he used to play attacking midfield and possesses vast amounts of skill. unfortunately this has been contained due to the request to play out of position as a defensive midfielder. imagine ronaldinho playing there. he’s done well considering. terrible post. boo you.

Thanks for your comment Podge but I would disagree.

The comparison with Ronaldinho came from the fact they were both Gremio players. Having skill seems to be a pre requisite for being Brazilian and even when he plays in a more advanced role he has shown very little to compare him with Ronaldinho. There was this misconception that he was this freescoring magician but go back and check his goal scoring record prior to joining United, was hardly spectacular!

I didn’t say he was a poor player and I’m personally a fan but you need to take the rose tints off, the number of incidents are piling up.

I like the way you put it, he’s not the first player to go clubbing in pre-season. I think Sir Alex will handle the situation well.

    Fan of Ando here.
    Sad news definitely.
But also something that pisses fans off. Not to mention SAF.

So much potential in him. Hopefully, SAF gives him perhaps one last chance and he learns AND NOT go back his old ways.

This may be a lil crude, but it might just turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Ando himself and Manchester United.

    A bit harsh Stuart!

I agree SeoDevilz could be the eye opener he needs

…… please kids open your eyes. Great talent but is not a professional. He lacks common sense. He should be eating sleeping dreaming of an early return instead he is out getting hammered with kids and letting other/himself drive around under the influence. Stupid and disrespectful to the United badge. I understand second chances but this is not a topic for interpenetration. He gets paid to conduct himself as a professional and to play. the past years he has been anything but that. His off the field conduct is disgusting and should be dismissed from his contract. If he was the driver I hope he is prosecuted for endangering life’s like any other man would. I’m disgusted with his actions obviously.

    Great post bye MUTCOmUReds.
I effing know i would be sacked for this type of C..p.
As the man says disrespectful to the United badge.
