Sotiris-Ninis-panathanaikos-manchester-united-transfer-target croppedAccording to reports today, Manchester United are set to capture Greek wonder kid Sotiris Ninis as early as the January transfer window.

The 20-year-old who currently plays for Greek side Panathinaikos has an £8 million release clause in his contract and the Red Devils are ready to activate it after Sir Alex Ferguson identified him as the ideal replacement for Paul Scholes.

United are believed to have already opened negotiations with the Athens club about taking Ninis to Old Trafford and the acquisition of the player would fall in line with the club’s current transfer policy of recruiting young, talented players.

20-year-olds Chris Smalling, Bebe and 22-year-old Javier Hernandez have all been added to the Manchester United squad this season.

Ninis, a skilful, elusive dribbler with an eye for a pass, has played much of his football on the right wing, but is also well suited to a free role behind a centre-forward or a creative midfield role. He is small at 5 ft 8 and was born in Albania but is of Greek descent, and has represented Greece at U21 and senior level scoring on his debut. In 64 appearances for Panathinaikos he has scored 6 goals.

Dont believe everythink the media saids mate…April and June they claimed we had bought him for £8m, if that the case then where is he, oh that right, he still in greece. Some one should really tell the kid he signed for United because him, Panathinaikos and United seemingly are totally unaware of the fact that they according to the press, have done a deal of trade.

What’s your opinion of him and the possibility of joining the team?

He certainly looks great from the few clips I’ve seen and has accomplished a whole lot for someone only 20 y.o. He definitely looks in the mold of a young Scholes. For that reason he may be a better option than Defour as we’re already pretty strong in the back midfield.

As usual, I always want our young talent to be given a chance before we move for someone else, but this kid may be too good to turn down. On top of that, with the possibility of Scholes and Giggs retiring after this season, the midfield won’t be as clogged. Also, his versatility means he doesn’t stand directly in front of another player.

Ninis, Panthinaikos and his ageant apparently all said today to Talksport that he would only leave Greece for Manchester United, ruling out Real Madrid and Inter Milan. At £8m this would be decent to what I have heard of the kid, aldo there was reports in April saying we bought him for £5-10m and in June claimìng we signed him for £9.5m, yet both are false. I highly doubt Sir Alex Ferguson see’s him as the Paul Scholes replacement as there is no Scholesy replacement and I am sick of that rubbìsh line.

Honestly, i think he be a good recruit if Sir Alex does move for him (a big if)..He has alot of potential and is a decent lil player, quick and slick, he has a nack for creativing chances so there no question on the lads ability, never gona be a scholes or giggs…thou..he’d better than ozil, jcole and vdv without question.

It’d actually make sense to buy a midfielder in January because it’d give us time to assess Anderson, Gibbo and Carrick to see if we need to buy………..

having said that, wouldn’t he be Champions League cup tied though??

He’s no better than the talent in house..I rate our eikrem, petrucci, morrison etc above ninis..

I don’t know man. Nothing ever happens for United on the transfer front. All the good players in the world choose to be stupid & go destroy their football careers at Real Madrid or Barca & now Man Shitty. Maybe Barca’s not so bad, but Real & Shitty are just so obviously f**ked up clubs with f**ked up politics. If Ninis is good enough to cut it, I hope he does choose United (if we come for him) coz this is the place to be for the footballer who dreams of a long, glorious career, & to have his name carved into the upper echelons of world football!
