A broken ankle for Antonia Valencia broke has put a dampener on United’s opening Champions League game.

The right winger was injured in an innocuous challenge with Kirk Broadfoot just before the 60 minute mark and the reaction from all around was an instant indication that there was a problem. The Ecuadorian was stabilised on-field and given oxygen before being rushed to hospital.

This will be a major blow considering Valencia’s growing importance in the team and we can only wish him well.

The game itself was largely uneventful thanks in part due to Rangers tactics, content to sit back and absorb United’s attacking efforts. They did push forward late on but with little conviction ensuring the game finished 0-0.

Following the game Sir Alex claimed Valencia injury “looks like a dislocation and a fracture” and that he would be out for a long time.

theres no class in the team anymore they are dead heads, giggs and scholes are the best but once they go, the man utd we love will fade

Feel for Valencia and hope hes not out for too long. BUT I have supported United for 50 years or so and saw my first game at OT in 1965 and can say that this was possibly one of the worst performancies I have seen. Wingers who can’t beat a man Midfield that runs but hasn’t got a clue about unlocking a door. A manager who makes 10 changes and thinks that he has a great squad and refused to buy quality midfield player/s because of so called ‘no value in the market’. On this showing and our away games so far will we win much this season – I doubt it.

Interesting to see a few people here who’s teams are irrelevant thus feel the need to come onto a United site.

Thanks for the insight PJCH would love to pick your brain once in a while to get your insight on what you’ve seen in your time.

  6. Sorry chudi but says:

man united needs to sell ji sung park, valencia ( if and when he recovers) evra, kusjack, carrick, mame biam jeuf, mathew james, josh king , obertan, michael owen, ronnie, and release brown , owen H. and nevile.

vandersar, scholes and giggs should not be regular starter next season but stay…
loan out gibson, wellbeck, eikrem, conor delvin, bebe , petrucci and oliver gill.
should start regularly, ben amos, rafael, smalling/ j. evans, vidic, fabio, flecher, anderson, nani, harnandez/ barbatov, macheda and buy either ganso or pato if possible both… also should try to buy, shakho or neven subotovic … give more chances to c. evans, will keane, cleaverly, r. morrisson, pogba, ejaj hossain and di latet.
