I bang on bout how good our youngsters are all the time and if you don’t believe me check out Man United Youth and he’ll tell you the same. With the plethora of talent trying to break through across the world it’s always good to hear our players praised by people in the game in a greater position than myself.

As England captain and a top defender himself, I would be inclined to take Rio’s word when it comes to appraising defenders so look out for United reserve defender Zeki Fryer who he named as a potential star of the 2018 World Cup.

Speaking on England’s World Cup bid Ferdinand said:

“I’m thinking about both the youngsters who could play in the tournament in eight years, and the kids that will watch it and be inspired to play the game. We’ve got some talented youngsters, the likes of Chelsea’s Josh McEachran, Ross Barkley at Everton, Ezekial Fryers in our youth ranks at United and John Bostock with Spurs.”

Fryers currently represents England at u19 level and is part of the travelling party that beat Cyprus 4-0 on Sunday although he was an unused sub. The u19 team next play today against Belgium where he will hopefully see some playing time.

With such ringing endorsement, no pressure ey Zeki!
