The new kids are on the block!

Fabio Da Silva The often forgotten other half of the Da Silva twins had a solid game. He kept Wolves’ danger man Matt Jarvis quiet in the first half and it wasn’t until Jarvis swapped flanks that he started causing problems for Brown and Neville. Fabio, made some crucial interventions most notably denying Stephen Hunt a comeback goal. Unfortunately the resulting corner was converted by Elokobi. When the twins first signed it was widely reported that Fabio is better than his brother Rafael. So far Rafael is shining and has developed the defensive side of his game so I suppose only time will tell.

Federico Macheda The young Italian had a few chances most notably the two carved out for him by Bebe where one was saved and the other he managed to put over. I think he doesn’t look his best up top alone and he started to show frustration as the game went on. Macheda built a huge reputation after emphatically burst onto the scene with against Villa back in the 2008/2009 season, since then he hasn’t progressed as some had expected (although injury last season didn’t help). Still just 19 he has a long time to develop but right now he needs a goal.

Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez “Cometh the hour, cometh the man!” He came on for the final 10 minutes and won the game for Fergie’s youngsters. His winning goal came four minutes from time when he won the ball in the air, (I must add what a leap he’s got for a supposed ‘Little Pea’) he then burst into the box, latched onto the ball, gave the defender the faint and clinically finished past Wayne Hennessey. It’s like he’s been playing top flight football for years and already there are many people likening him to a certain Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Massive praise for the young Mexican but what’s for sure is that he certainly has the ‘baby face’ of Ole!

So it was Hernandez who stole the headlines once again and it looks like Fergie’s found a ‘little gem rather than a little pea’. A new hero has certainly been born among the United faithful! A 3 – 2 win, a place in the Carling Cup Quarter Finals’ and a clear sign that United’s future ambition does look positive – Mr Rooney!
