There are few teams in the country that will envy Liverpool’s current state.

Formerly the biggest team in the country, their past achievements still see them up there but they have clearly fallen out of the ‘big 4’. Their slide has been quite remarkable considering they ran us extremely close in the league 2 seasons ago and though it was felt they had over achieved that season, they were as close to get league number 19 as ever.

That season in what was a huge shock they managed to spank us 4-1 at Old Trafford, showing that in these games absolutely anything can happen when we meet.

On Sunday, I would hazard a guess at saying that the chance for bragging right is just as, if not more important than the fact victory will take either team a step closer to a trophy. What the cup format will do though is make the game as intense an anything, there aren’t 37 more games to make it up. After this 90 minutes (and possibly another 90 if it goes to a replay) one team has to be declared the winner so expect, passion and hopefully a performance that belies the intensity of the derby.

The rivalry whilst having an element of respect is as fierce as any and the fact Liverpool have looked terrible this season will really count for nothing as they, and we, will be well up for it!

Whilst we are on the subject I guess we can chalk this down as another league title free season for Liverpool!
