Last week the reserves took on Bolton at Moss Lane in the first reserve game of the new year as well as the first without Ole in charge.

With the likes of Wes Brown and John O’Shea in the team alongside the likes of the just returned King, we saw a good mix of youth and experience.

We saw some good play and chances from United with Obertan drawing a save from keeper Jay Lynch erly on whilst  Bebe went close, firing over after rounding keeper.

But on the 43rd minute United finally broke the deadlock when Joshua King, having returned from his loan spell at Preston, shot past Lynch after getting on the end of Joe Dudgeon’s cut back. King (who has since scored 2 more goals) looks a real threat with his pace and throughout the game he seemed to drift past players effortlessly.

United kept Lynch busy throughout the second half with Fabio, Obertan and Bebe all going closing but Bolton held firm and kept the score at 1-0.

Watch out for a cameo from Denis Irwin’s son Liam.
