He has been criticised before for his lack of goals but this season Dimitar Berbatov has undoubtedly been on fire.

Another hat trick along with goals from Giggs and Nani saw United improve their goal difference against a lacklustre Birmingham side.

United opened the scoring in the second minute when Berbatov nodded home from close distance and really didn’t look like giving up their lead as he and Giggs added to United’s total before half time.

Berbatov completed his hat trick in in the second half and Nani got in on the act with a long range effort too.

Owen and Rooney could have added their names to the scoresheet too but poor finishing and decent keeping from the returning Ben Foster prevented United from extending their lead even further.

Tremendous all around. Nani was disappointing and wasteful, but still gets a goal, and creates so much space and chances that he is still effective! When he puts it all together he might be one of the top 5 in the world. Everyone else was terrific, including nice subtle performances by Anderson and O’shea. Rooney great except his finish. NEXT

Rooney was brilliant but REALLY needs to work on his finishing, the header was a shocker and the side footed volley that missed the target was almost as bad.

Giggs was brilliant and well worth his goal whilst Berbatov looked fab seeing him creep in for his first showedhe can score fantastic goals as well as do the poaching thing as well

I know Nani can be wasteful at times, but one of the commentators was so overboard with his criticism postmatch. Players like him who are that daring and creative are going to be wasteful at times. I’m not saying he can’t improve, but why overlook the numerous brilliant things he did?

Shouldn’t be a surpise though, analysts and rival fans did the same for Ronaldo and the minute he left were saying how valuable he was and how we couldn’t live without him.

A joy of a game to watch and liked seeing that several of our new generation were involved, including Fabio who looked quite good. He doesn’t mark quite as well as his brother, but seems to intercept passes more. Will love to see more. Can’t wait for Tuesday.

ronaldo, tevez and nani have gypsie mentalities…they can’t play with someone the size of Berbatov
