Oliver Gill vs Blackpool reservesFacing a Blackpool team with Ian Holloway on the touchline and Charlie Adam, Taylor-Fletcher, Grandin, Varney, and Phillips on field Manchester United’s reserves lost for the first time since September.

Coming off a win against Liverpool, the experience of the Blackpool team showed at Bloomfield Road when Luke Varney put Blackpool 1 up after getting on the end of Ludovic Sylvestre and putting past Conor Devlin.

But dead ball specialist Ollie Norwood was to ensure United wouldn’t go into the break down when from the left wing he deceptively whipped a free kick at the Blackpool near post. His attempt was unexpected and caused defender Chris Basham to direct the ball into his own net.

Blackpool were to have the final say in the half though as Charlie Adam went close from a set piece.

As the game resumed Blackpool continued the pressure with both Phillips and Varney going close but then it was time for United to threaten as Bebe shot wide twice either side of an Obertan chance.

But those misses were to prove costly as Belarus international Sergei Kornilenko put Blackpool ahead with 20 minutes to go. Kornilenko, who also scored the winner against Liverpool the previous week, was able to prod past an on rushing Conor Devlin after a good passing move by Blackpool to give them a lead.

Bebe didn’t have his best game but almost rescued a point late on when he picked up the ball from substitute Davide Petrucci, ran at the Blackpool defence but saw his shoot deflected off a defender onto the bar, United wouldn’t get another chance and Warren Joyce’s side would taste defeat.
