Manchester United’s u18 left it late against Newcastle to secure another win against the Tyne side this season.

Having beaten Newcastle in the FA Youth Cup last month, United repeated the feat with a 2-1 win, echoing the result the reserves achieved earlier in the week.

United took the lead through a wonderful strike by Larnell Cole just after the half hour mark. The diminutive midfielder picked up the ball on the half way line and raced forward before bending his 8th of the season past the Newcastle keeper Jan Alnwick. United could have doubled their lead when Morrison fired over from outside of the box and moments later Newcastle drew level when top scorer Dan Taylor headed home following a good cross from McGorrigan who did well to get himself a bit of space despite Tyler Blackett’s attention.

Despite United having chances, it was Newcastle that had the better of the second half so sub Luke Giverin’s winner was much welcomed with 7 minutes to go.

Giverin met a low Massacci cross from the right to score from close range and hand United the 2-1 win.

The game also saw the debut of Mats Møller Dæhli who had been promoted from the u16s and didn’t look out of place after coming on after half an hour due to a nose injury to Charni Ekangamane.
