Prior to the game with Schalke much of the build up focused on Raul and his revival in Germany.
The striker, who holds the record for most goals in the Champions League, helped eliminate the holders Inter Milan in the last round and as 4 of his 71 goals in the competition came against United some felt that he could help the German side take an advantage to Old Trafford next week.
The reality was much different.
Whilst the press were bigging up Raul, the man himself attempted to share the shine with two other legends in Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.
Speaking on Giggs he said:
“He’s a great professional who looks after himself.
“Giggs and Paul Scholes are players for whom I have an enormous admiration.
“I would love to swap shirts with Ryan Giggs after the game. It would be a great honour.”
It appears Raul’s words were somewhat prophetic as it was Giggs who opened the scoring against Schalke tonight and at the final whistle the Spaniard made a bee line for Giggs and got the shirt he wanted.
He got what he wanted, you would think he would look a lot more cheerful!
That kit definitely suits him! And good for him, finally realising his dream – who doesn’t want Giggs’ shirt!?
It would be nice can swap shirt with Giggs and can play with him in the match. You are the legend!!!
He is most certainly finished!
Not a legend, Sir Ryan of Salford.
Well played tonight Ryan, why we love you, papa time does not deny class.
I think I will take up ‘yoga’.
Great work Sir Ryan What a pity you spoilt your year by taking out that gagging order!
