The ankle injury Antonio Valencia sustained in Ecuador’s opening Copa America game has ruled the winger out of United’s American tour as he has returned to Carrington for treatment.

Valencia damaged the same ankle that he dislocated and fractured last season when a Paraguay player stepped on his ankle. He was withdrawn at half time in that game and hasn’t played since.

This problem isn’t thought to be serious but United will take no chances as the winger returned to the club to carry on treatment.

With the acquisition of Ashley Young his absence on the flank won’t be as detrimental to the team as it was last term but even then that doesn’t make of for the absence of top quality player and we wish him a speedy recovery.

Terrible to hear about TonyV but at least Sneijder is on his way, he’s confirmed on his Facebook page!
