With Man City leaving it late to beat Tottenham earlier, the pressure was firmly on United to get a result against Arsenal.

Last season United fell 1-0 after Ramsey slotted past van der Sar, but there would be no repeat as United impressively beat Arsenal following goals from Antonio Valencia and Danny Welbeck.

Valencia’s header at the end of the first half was just rewards for United’s dominance. Rising above Vermaelen, he nodded in Giggs’ cross but this wouldn’t be his only contribution.

Arsenal threatened for spells in the second half but United rode the storm and after Van Persie brought Arsenal level, Welbeck sealed the win late on, smashing home from close range, following good work from Valencia down the right flank.
