The headlines from last night’s win against Blackburn have undoubtedly have been stolen by Antonio Valencia.

The has looked like a man possessed this season, and last night when things appeared like they would end in stalemate, it was Valencia who broke the deadlock with a rattling shot from the right wing.

He then helped put the tie out of Blackburn’s reach by setting up Ashley for United’s second, but before we took the lead we could have found ourselves behind.

Although rare, Blackburn forged some good chances and we have David to thank for the fact our goal was not breeched.

In December, it was against Blackburn that stumbled and saw his place in the team usurped by so his performance yesterday was a marked improvement, and was quick to hail the keeper and the progress he has made:

“David made three fantastic saves to keep us in the game.

“Although we had all the possession, we couldn’t create the openings to get in front.

hit the post and we had a penalty kick claim – I didn’t think it was – so David has done his bit for the team.

“He has really grown in stature the boy. He was outstanding.”
