It appeared an upset was on the cards as United took on Ajax Cape Town yesterday lunch time.

In a match that saw Shinji Kagawa make his ‘proper’ debut, the South African side took the lead late on when Alcardo Van Graan audaciously lifted a backheel over the stranded Ben Amos from an 86th minute corner.

Having been on the pitch for a minute or so Van Graan was ready to enter into Ajax Captain folk lore but like the major motion picture release of the weekend, a dark knight rose to restore order.

Whilst nowhere near as impressive as Batman, Bebe returned yesterday for Manchester United and found the back of the net at the game’s death.

Still somewhat of a mystery to United fans, a season long loan to Besiktas fell on it’s face when Bebe ruptured cruciate ligaments in his knee, but upon his return it was he that restored parity against a competitive Ajax CT.

Good work down the flank from Vermijl saw Bebe with enough time and space at the back post to sweep home.

United will be disappointed having squandered a number of chances with Chicharito still looking for sharpness and Kagawa heading wide from close range.

There was a full 90 minutes from Tyler Blackett at left back and the youngster showed no fear in imposing himself, strong in the tackle when the situation called for it. There was also a first appearance from Nick Powell and he showed good feet as well as seeing a late shot saved by Sean Roberts.
