According to The Daily Mail, Danny Welbeck is set to end his lengthy contract ‘dispute’ with Manchester United by signing a new 5 year deal.

As far back as April it had been reported that Welbeck would sign a new £45k a week contract, but up until now there has been no news from the club on a new deal. Last month Sir Alex confirmed talks were on-going but any outstanding problems appear to have been solved as the new deal is to be signed imminently.

Welbeck enjoyed a breakthrough season at Old Trafford last term, forcing his way into the first team ahead of Dimitar Berbatov and Javier Hernandez. So impressive were his performances, he was included in Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2012 squad where he scored a memorable goal against Sweden.

It has been claimed the striker wanted his wage to reflect his position in the game as Wayne Rooney’s first choice partner and as an England international, and it seems it will be as The Daily Mail claim he will receive a whopping £75k a week, an increase of £60k a week on his current £15k a week deal.

It has to be noted that The Daily Mail highlighted the fact his deal is packed with “incentives based on future performance”.

Yeah I’m pretty sure the Daily Mail wrote a similar story a few months ago, but he never signed a new deal. I don’t doubt Welbeck signing a new contract but he won’t get £75,000 after one season and scoring 9 goals. He is a big talent but a flat deal worth £50,000, which based on appearances and goals could increase to £60,000, is probably more correct.

Thought £75k was a bit extravagant too, was think £45/50k as mentioned before with bonuses
