Manchester United’s u21s got their league campaign underway with a 1-0 victory over Stoke.

There has been a major overhaul of football at that level to ensure more football for younger players but United showed no signs of being affected by the change.

Defender Scott Wootton was the difference as his looping shot eluded Carlo Nash in the 7th minute but United could have won by a greater margin had they not spurned a number of chances.

There was a full 90 minutes for Darren Fletcher as he continues his return to fitness.
