Last night England’s u19 slumped to a 3-1 defeat against Germany with Nick Powell grabbing England’s only goal.

Playing behind the striker in the first half he was dropped deeper in the second and it was in the more advanced role that he grabbed his goal.

On the half hour the United midfielder won the ball in the middle of the pitch, blocking an attempted clearance, before racing clear of chasing defenders and gently lifting the ball over the keeper.

I wonder when Nick Powell, Ryan Turncliffe, Jessie Lingard and Robbie Brady will get pushed into the first team. We have seen Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck become important members of the squad. In Cleverley case he has been given the central midfield job, which we really need someone to fill.

We are crying out for a more defensive bulldog in midfield. Turncliffe seems to be the guy with these qualities and I hope he gets an opportunity. We haven’t loaned him out so Ferguson must have him in his thinking for midfield. Powell is going to be developed in a central midfielder as well. I think he could be a clone of Paul Scholes. Powell has goals in him but we need to develop his game. Lingard impressed a lot in pre-season and showed he has talent. He also hasn’t be loaned out either.
