Comments from Roberto Carlos on Anzhi Makhachkala being open to signing Wayne Rooney caused a few murmurs yesterday, but Anzhi’s manager Guus Hiddink has quickly moved to dispel this notion.
In England facing Liverpool in the Europa League, Roberto Carlos told Sky Sports News that the Russian side would be interested in signing the United striker and that billionaire owner Suleyman Kerimov could get the deal done if he wanted to.
But the side’s manager has over ruled the Brazilian team director, saying nothing has been mentioned in regards to a transfer.
Speaking after Anzhi’s 1-0 defeat at Anfield, Hiddink said:
“He (Carlos) may be able to say things like that in his position. He has not talked to me about it, but he doesn’t have to. It is sometimes nice to just say something without a grain of truth in it.
“We want star players, but we do not buy just to buy.
“Of course Rooney is a good player, but we must be realistic.”
I guess, it comes down to 2570 simple choice!
