As you should know Old Trafford will be getting a new pitch this summer and earlier this month pictures emerged of the £800,000 project in it’s initial stages.
With the current surface collapsing under the weight of heavy rain in December, it was due and ground staff began tearing up the turf in view of installing a partly synthetic surface similar to the one used at Wembley.
Here is the ground in it latest stage with what appears to be a sand basing, after all the turf has been removed.
Ground staff will be working through the summer in view of the pitch being ready to host Rio Ferdinand testimonial against Sevilla at the start of August.
With the surface as it is, the likes of Rafael, Fabio and Anderson should feel right at home. Just have to sort out the weather and we could have our own slice of the Copacabana in the middle of the north west!
