Geoffrey Kondogbia

Although he has not officially taken up the position, David Moyes has set about aggressively revamping Manchester United’s midfield.

United have been linked with a number of midfielders already, the pursuit of Spaniard Thiago Alcantara is up in the air but said to hinge the player green lighting the move, but will United add some much needed steel to their midfield?

There has been little to no talk of a move for Marouane Fellaini, whilst rumours of a move for Kevin Strootman have gone cold but this week news of a move for Sevilla’s Geoffrey Kondogbia has emerged.

The midfielder joined Sevilla from Lens last summer and has excelled in midfield leading to interest from Real Madrid, Man City and Chelsea, but local paper Diario de Sevilla claim that United held ‘positive’ talks with the Andelusian club and that a transfer is very much on the cards.

Some say that comparisons with Patrick Vieira are lazy given that both are tall, black, French midfielders but you can see similarities between the two as they mix strength and power with technical ability but if anything, I think Kondogbia can assume a Yaya Toure like role for United.

Tall and robust, Kondogbia is left footed, technically adept and uses the ball smartly with an 87% pass rate last season. Although he can be deployed in the center or left of defence, Kondogbia really shines when playing in the holding role (which would allow Thiago and Carrick to cause mayhem!). Aged just 20 there is still time for him to become an offensive force like Yaya Toure is as he is positionally disciplined thus tends not to make much of an impact in the opposition’s half.

Sevilla are currently suffering from financial problems and have already sold Jesus Navas to Man City in an attempt to alleviate this, so a transfer is very possible. It is believed that a fee in the region of £15m could drive a deal through although a figure much lower could be negotiated given that last summer he cost them around €3m.

United will need to move quickly if they are interested in bringing Kondogbia to Old Trafford though, an unnamed team had a €9m bid rejected this week and the Real Madrid are said to be looking to add him to Isco as new signings this summer.

We won the league. Carrick and Evra in particular are underrated. We could do with a left winger. Centrally (if he stays) Rooney is a good option. I agree he had some bad games, but I am confident he can perform well as the offensive of the midfield duo. There are mant that want us to sign this or that player for amazing figures. Sure, I would like Bale to come, but other than that leftsided midfield position United are well covered. They are constantly linked with a central defender and that is something I cant understand. This player is in the same mould as Powell. How many players can you play at the same time? The answer is 11. If we are to buy all these players we are linked with, we should sell all the ones we have. And I repeat that United won the league. For me, we are favorites again
