Gareth Bale

Robbie Savage has told his countryman Gareth Bale that a move to Old Trafford will put him amongst football’s greats.

There has been growing speculation about Gareth Bale’s future, with a move to Real Madrid appearing the most likely outcome.

Manchester United still have an outside chance of securing Bale’s signature if he does decide to leave White Hart Lane, but with relations between United and Tottenham somewhat frosty it appears unlikely.

But United’s hopes may have received a boost after Savage told Bale that a move to his former club could be best for him.

Speaking in an interview with The Sabotage Times, Savage said:

“I think Gareth Bale is an unbelievable talent. He’s got the world at his feet.

“I think to achieve greatness, he has to play at a team who are going to realistically contend for the Champions League and the Premier League. Will Spurs be that one day? I’m not so sure.

“I think to be put on a pedestal with the likes of Ryan Giggs, Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Paul Scholes, he has to play for the biggest clubs in the world and I think Spurs are a big club in the Premier League, but in terms of world status; you’ve got to look at United and I’d put Manchester City in that bracket now with the finances.”
