Wayne Rooney was injured in training

Wayne Rooney has been left out of Manchester United’s travelling party to Sweden for Tuesday’s game with AIK Fotboll after picking up a shoulder injury.

Rooney was meant to make a return from the hamstring injury that kept him out of United’s tour of Asia and Australia but is said to have picked up a shoulder injury in United’s 3-0 behind closed doors win over Real Betis on Saturday in which he scored.

Now with news of a second Chelsea bid for the striker being turned down, Rooney being left out of the travelling party for tomorrow’s game will no doubt feed rumours that the striker is trying to force his way out of the Old Trafford door.

David Moyes said of Rooney’s absence:

“Wayne hurt his shoulder in a fall during a match on Saturday. It’s not too serious and I don’t expect it to keep him out for too long.

“I’m disappointed he’s missing the game because we were keen to get him back involved and ready to play.”

The party that travels is missing a number of players but will also see Nani and Vidic return to action after both have been getting back to fitness whilst the first team were on tour.

The squad in full:

Lindegaard, Amos; Rafael, Evans, Evra, Jones, Smalling, Vidic; Anderson, Bebe, Carrick, Giggs, Nani, Zaha; Henriquez, Kagawa, van Persie, Welbeck

  1. When will you dumb ABU's Learn says:

Rooney probably injured his shoulder carrying his £200k a week!! He should shut up talking via his friends and man up and come out and say what he wants himself. End the speculation!
