Everton manager Roberto Martinez has admitted that he can’t wait for the transfer window to close as he faces losing stars Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines to Manchester United.
With Manchester United ramping up their efforts to bring new faces to Old Trafford this weekend, both Fellaini and Baines could swap Goodison Park for Old Trafford.
Everton have insisted that the pair are not for sale, and have already rejected offers of £28m and £36m for the duo, but Martinez admits that despite their best efforts, they may fail to hold onto the pair.
Both players faced Cardiff City this afternoon as Everton were held to a goalless draw, and speaking after the game, when asked if he is worried whether Fellaini and/or Baines could leave before Monday, Martinez told BBC Sport:
“Of course.
“We have got some top-class players that we are desperate to keep hold of and the next 48 hours will tell us whether we can do that.
“From our point of view we want the window shut as soon possible.”
It will be a real boost for United
