Wayne Rooney has admitted that his foul on Cardiff City forward Jordan Mutch, was a bad one but has hit out at Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler for his continued remarks about it.

Rooney was only shown a yellow after appearing to kick Mutch early in the game and after he opened the scoring Tyler continued to opine that the striker should not have been on the field.

Rooney has since tweeted:

Cardiff manager Malky Mackay has since praised referee Neil Swarbrick for his handling of the matter but the headlines tomorrow undoubtedly be about Rooney and the red card he could have been shown.

Interestingly Tyler didn’t have much to say about Gary Mendel’s slap on Marouane Fellaini seconds before Cardiff’s second equaliser, allowing the freekick to be retaken rather than penalising the the Chilean midfielder.
