Manchester united could bolster their ranks with two of Real Madrid’s stars after comments from Xabi Alonso and Angel Di Maria this weekend.
Both player have been on Manchester United’s radar recently with the club heavily linked with a move for Di Maria after the arrival of Gareth Bale at the Bernabeu. Alonso has also been named as a potential target although news, premature at that, that he had signed a new deal with the Spanish club put an end to those rumours.
But news coming out of Spain will have reignited the rumours, with both players potentially back in United’s plans.
Alonso has apparently decided to leave Spain when his contract expires this summer, with El Confidencial claiming that he is so set in his ways that he is refusing to take calls from Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.
Alonso has been linked with both Manchester clubs, Juventus as well as a reunion with former boss Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, and Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti sounded somewhat defeated in his attempts to keep the 32 year old this weekend, telling AS:
“In the club we have no information — they are talking and there is no news.
“Whether he signs or not, it will not stop Xabi being a Real Madrid player until the summer of 2014, and we hope he remains one after. Until that date he is a very important player. When he is available, he is going to play.”
In the case of Angel Di Maria, the winger who has started just 1 of his 6 La Liga appearances has denied that he is open to renewing his contract at Real Madrid.
The 25 year old claims it makes no sense to renew as he isn’t playing, revealing a frustration at his lack of on pitch time following Bale’s arrival.
Speaking to Marca, the Argentinian said:
“I’m happy at Real Madrid but I never asked for a renewal. A player who does not play cannot ask for a renewal.”
