Manchester United are said to be leading the race for 16 year old Swiss starlet Dimitri Oberlin Mfomo, according to the Daily Mirror.
The paper report that United will beat a host of Europe’s top clubs to the Mfomo’s signature and with his current deal with FC Zurich set to expire, United will be able to sign him for minimal compensation.
Zurich were said to have rejected a €600k bid from Zurich last year but rejected, hoping to get a figure close to €1m but now will likely miss out on a payday due to Mfomo’s deal running out.
Mfomo comes from the same clubs that Manchester United signed Saidy Janko from last summer, and is highly rated there playing for the u18s at the age of 16. Could United’s relationship with FC Zurich cultivated via that transfer help United sign Mfomo?
He is also likely to seek advice from Janko on United and given how Janko’s first season at United has gone, it is likely that United could very well add another Swiss player to their ranks along with Janko and Joel Castro Perreira.
