This is a near-impossible list to compile, but we at The Busby Way have attempted to put together the best ten Manchester United goals of the Premier League era.

With so many wonderful goals from some of the greatest players to ever put on the red shirt, and with just ten places to fill, some unbelievable strikes sadly did not make the cut.

So here it is; The top 10 Manchester United goals of the Premier League era:

NUMBER 10: FEDERICO MACHEDA vs Aston Villa What a moment this was. The goal which all but saw off Liverpool’s title challenge in the 08/09 campaign, and who would have expected the scorer to be young Federico Macheda. The young Italian may not develop into the player United fans hoped he would become, but this moment will be forever etched in the minds of all Manchester United fans. A sensational goal, and what a time to pull it off. (The commentary isn’t bad either).

NUMBER 9: PAUL SCHOLES vs Bradford Paul Scholes had a decent volley on him, it is fair to say, and this strike against Bradford was absolutely sensational.

NUMBER 8: ROBIN VAN PERSIE vs Aston Villa The Dutchman had a spellbinding season after signing from Arsenal, leading the Red Devils to the league title. This goal was typical of the striker’s finishing, he simply could not miss. The pass from Rooney wasn’t too bad, either.

NUMBER 7: CRISTIANO RONALDO vs Portsmouth What would this list be without a goal from perhaps the greatest footballer to ever ply his trade in the English game. It is an emphatic free kick, leaving David James absolutely helpless.

NUMBER 6: WAYNE ROONEY vs Newcastle A young Wayne Rooney showed the world how much talent he was gifted with in 2005 against Newcastle. It is an outrageously perfect strike, and it is not even his best goal on this list!

NUMBER 5: PAUL SCHOLES vs Aston Villa A goal which sums up perfectly the effortless technique the Old Trafford faithful witnessed from Scholes for so many years. The ball comes from such a height that the technique required to hit it how he does is ridiculously difficult. A wonderful Paul Scholes goal, of which there were many.

NUMBER 4: DAVID BECKHAM vs Wimbledon A goal which displays David Beckham’s world class vision, intelligence and ultimately ability to place a football wherever he wanted to. A truly iconic Premier League goal by perhaps the biggest footballing icon of all time.

NUMBER 3: RUUD VAN NISTELROOY vs Fulham The Dutch poacher scored a number of vital goals for Manchester United, but almost all of which were close-range finishes made to look easy by his brilliant positioning and scoring abilities. One goal however, was like no other. Running from inside his own half, Van Nistelrooy took on and beat numerous Fulham players to score an unbelievable goal.

NUMBER 2: WAYNE ROONEY vs Man City It seems incredibly harsh that this goal did not finish first in the list, such was its quality, but that is the difficulty in picking Manchester United goals from the Premier League era. There are so many moments of genius. This is undoubtedly one of the greatest moments in the club’s history, though. A massive fixture against the noisy neighbours, and when his club needed him most, when he was struggling for form, Wayne Rooney arose and produced one of the best pieces of individual skill to ever take place on the Old Trafford pitch.

NUMBER 1: ERIC CANTONA vs Sunderland It was going to take something out of this world to beat Wayne Rooney’s bicycle kick to the number one spot, so arise Eric Cantona. This goal was selected as it has literally everything; skill, pace, power, finesse, genius… and then the finish, which was absolutely outrageous. A perfect goal. For that reason it is our number one.

If you disagree with the order or feel we have missed out some goals which merit a place on the list then feel free to leave a comment!
