Memphis Depay flew himself out to England yesterday to meet with United manager, Louis Van Gaal.

The meeting caused quite a stir across the Premier League as Depay is a highly coveted player who appears to be halfway out the PSV door.

Depay has enjoyed a highly successful 2014-2015 season with PSV, notching 20 goals in 28 games so far this season.

The Netherlands international player has a tight bond with United coach Louis Van Gaal. Van Gaal is not only a fellow Dutchman, but he also coached Depay last summer in the World Cup as Holland advanced to the semi-final before being defeated by Lionel Messi and the Argentines.

Van Gaal reportedly considered making a move for Depay after the World Cup but decided to hold off and keep tabs on his progress this season with PSV before making any definitive decision.

Van Gaal may pay for that hesitation as Depay has flourished with PSV this season and is now looking to cash in. PSV reportedly want £25m for Depay after his breakout year with the club. Additionally, United will face heavy competition for Depay with PSG and Liverpool also reportedly in the mix for Depay’s signiture.

However, indications are that Depay’s meeting with Van Gaal is a sign that United are leading the pack for the star attacker.

Van Gaal appears to be seeking a Dutch takeover at Old Trafford. Along with Depay, United are also in the hunt for fellow Holland native, Wesley Sneijder.

Even if it means Holland national team as a whole, it doesn’t matter so far we are winning trophies.
