This is becoming one of football’s most protracted sagas and frankly it’s become boring.

This morning I put on the TV to hear Sky Sports News report that Barcelona had agreed terms with Werder Bremen for Mesut Ozil. Naturally I was disappointed but not massively as I feel it would be good to have him but we can survive without him. News confirming this was slow to come through and eventually more news sources reported that Werder had indeed confirmed that Ozil would indeed be leaving Germany.

Case closed? Nope not that simple, these things never are.

Werder would then report that they had not received and offers whilst Ozil himself stated he was unaware of any deal being struck with Barcelona.

Over on the Stretford End, friend of our site Yolkie revealed exclusively that he had it on good authority that we would not be signing the young German. Yolkie has been right in regards to a number of other United related things too so I have no reason to think he is wrong here especially considering the well reported state of our finances but then Werder Bremen’s director of sport Klaus Allofs has been reported in German paper Kreiszeitung Syke as saying:

“It is possible that there is now a bit of movement in the issue.”

So what the hell is going on here?

Frankly I’m getting bored of the whole thing and it looks like Werder have a lot of us dancing a merry dance. It’s not the first time this summer that a club or party has used another club to get a better deal. Balotelli’s agent appears to have done so with Man City (more fools them for believing!), Palermo tried it with Simon Kjaer and we even saw a shock “re-ignition of interest” in James Milner from us in the papers yesterday.

The figure that is being thrown around for Ozil’s services ranges from 8 to 12 to 15 million pounds and Werder were probably hoping for more especially after the frenzy he whipped up during the World Cup so it makes sense for Werder to continue leading on the interested parties, having them face off against each other and at the same time pushing the fee that bit higher.

There 2 weeks until the transfer window closes and I expect to see Bremen whoring Ozil and themselves out a little more in this 3 weeks. I just hope it’s over sooner rather than later and for the sake of my sanity our name is kept out of it!

i am sick of this story to, i dont want ozil as he is over-rated and fans only want him because of the world cup as they couldnt care less before hand. our financies are in good state (besides the glazer debt) as we have plenty of cash and good profits in a well run business structure side of the club. there is only one player i would really like and that it alexis sanchez but it aint happening. we dont need a new signing as the 18m spent on smalling and the superstar that is chicharito was good business.

the charity shield showed that scholes is still awesome, but when carrick and him left and were replaced by giggs-fletcher, the midfield was bad and we just couldn’t hold on to possession. Really Ozil plays like a young giggs, and if he were to come at 13mil pounds (we paid 14mil for carrick, 18mil for anderson), i can’t see why anyone would complain

Ozil has been good for more than a year now for Bremen, it’s not only the WC that was impressive! He is pretty good on the left wing too.
At 21, costing only around £12m, it is ridiculously good value and a potentially explosive talent. Not going to be gutted if we lose out, but I would very much like him at United!

tbh i would be gutted if he moves anywhere for under £15m and we dont even try for him.

but the rumours are starting to get on my nerves and all these games seem to mess with us fans more than anyone else.
midfield is our weak spot and for the last 2 summers i have wanted 2 guys brought in (one creative and one defensive) and it looks like another summer of disappointment.

its at the stage where i will take anyone with abit of quality much like when we got berba i didnt really want him but i was happy to get someone.

lets hope it gets sorted by the 18th one way of another cos if he plays in the champs league we all know the odds of him coming drop to zero.

we paid 17m for anderson and 14m rising to 18.6m for carrick. ozil is no young ryan giggs, giggs was a genius and still is and there will only be one ryan giggs. ozil is not good enough for our club and i have no idea why fans have this sick obsession with him. the media are just making up stories and thats the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. ozl is ordinary at best, just another poborsky/kleberson who had good tournaments and flopped here. do you hear what i am saying to you right now.

dude i have no idea why you dont rate ozil but the guy looks excellent, he played very well at the world cup and has been great at bremen too.

and his the perfect player for the 433 fergie like to use in europe and other big games. plus he can play in a 442 and can play in many roles.

lets get him and quick…if he goes to chelsea we will regret it. he is a true replacment for scholes and we need to bed him in now. we dont do defensive and him in the heart of midfield will be the icing on the cake. a snip and could outdo hernandez deal.

I have little doubt about Ozil’s abilities and his goals (11) and assists (19) for Bremen last year (as a 20 year old) should be enough evidence that he is likely going to be a major figure in football for years to come. I would need to hear a compelling argument as to how someone this young could put up these numbers, then have a strong World Cup and still be considered crap.

I’m only torn on the issue as Ozil’s arrival could impede Cleverley’s chances. I’m aware Cleverley can play multiple positions, but it seems they’re both at their best in the same position. By winning player of the year whilst on loan last year, Cleverley more than earned his chance to play first team; but the thought of missing out on Ozil and what he may become for such a paltry fee also bothers me.

Ok Ok stop hating Ozil now because of this I know you all are still licking his back side and want him at OT, Ozil has showed DURING the WORLD CUP that he is a WORLD CLASS PLAYER and is still improving i.e. he was a great player at WB for the last 2 seasons and has stepped up a notch during the WC and that shows that he is a GEM for the future and his ability at OT would just keep growing…at Barca where would he play, do they need him? Cesc will join them soon, Mascherano will join them soon probably so Xavi, Masch, Iniesta, Fab, Villa, Ibra, Bojan, Pedro…it would be just a pointless move for him, if Ozil is clever (i’m sure he is) then i’m sure he knows the situation surrounding Scholesy and Giggsy about their retirement…So I reckon we WILL get Wizard of OZ sooner than later, hopefully this week.
    UTD UTD UTD!!!
