This is becoming one of football’s most protracted sagas and frankly it’s become boring.

This morning I put on the TV to hear Sky Sports News report that Barcelona had agreed terms with Werder Bremen for Mesut Ozil. Naturally I was disappointed but not massively as I feel it would be good to have him but we can survive without him. News confirming this was slow to come through and eventually more news sources reported that Werder had indeed confirmed that Ozil would indeed be leaving Germany.

Case closed? Nope not that simple, these things never are.

Werder would then report that they had not received and offers whilst Ozil himself stated he was unaware of any deal being struck with Barcelona.

Over on the Stretford End, friend of our site Yolkie revealed exclusively that he had it on good authority that we would not be signing the young German. Yolkie has been right in regards to a number of other United related things too so I have no reason to think he is wrong here especially considering the well reported state of our finances but then Werder Bremen’s director of sport Klaus Allofs has been reported in German paper Kreiszeitung Syke as saying:

“It is possible that there is now a bit of movement in the issue.”

So what the hell is going on here?

Frankly I’m getting bored of the whole thing and it looks like Werder have a lot of us dancing a merry dance. It’s not the first time this summer that a club or party has used another club to get a better deal. Balotelli’s agent appears to have done so with Man City (more fools them for believing!), Palermo tried it with Simon Kjaer and we even saw a shock “re-ignition of interest” in James Milner from us in the papers yesterday.

The figure that is being thrown around for Ozil’s services ranges from 8 to 12 to 15 million pounds and Werder were probably hoping for more especially after the frenzy he whipped up during the World Cup so it makes sense for Werder to continue leading on the interested parties, having them face off against each other and at the same time pushing the fee that bit higher.

There 2 weeks until the transfer window closes and I expect to see Bremen whoring Ozil and themselves out a little more in this 3 weeks. I just hope it’s over sooner rather than later and for the sake of my sanity our name is kept out of it!

Why do we need Ozil or anyone? Why can’t we give people like Darren Gibson, Tom Cleverly, Anderson (when recovered) a chance.? Then we have Obertan can he not be just as good on the left wing? I reckon that Fergie was looking at Fulham on Saturday, after all we do play them soon and he just happened to have another engagement in London last weekend.

What is strange is we haven’t even made a bid. I don’t mind if we get outbid on him, if some mega-rich club offers silly money then of course we let them have him. But if we don’t bid at all that just shows we have no money.

Our net transfer spending this year has only been £5m and we made a huge profit on transfers last year due to the Ronaldo sale. If we don’t make a bid on a player who Ferguson has been following for a while and who may be available at a knock-down price this shows that the Glazers are finally doing what people said they would – milking the club dry.

Maybe Ferguson is just playing it cool for negotiating purposes. But this is a dangerous game. Ozil will think we aren’t really interested in him and may prefer to go somewhere he feels he is valued. We don’t want a repeat of the Aaron Ramsey fiasco.

so jonnny what website you look at to get those stats, doesnt mean a damn thing as you didnt want him until after the world cùp none of you did. hell you lot i bet didnt even know there was a kid a werder bremen called mesut ozil, pathetic really that a kid you didnt want only in may you have now become obsessed with because of a horrible world cup, sad really. can ànyone say poborsky – good euro 96 – flop, kleberson – good world cup 02 – flop, ozil is over-rated and we do not need him.

our transfer spending this year has been £16m mate not £5m, smalling £10m and CHICHARITO £6m (according to ssn). the only ones wo say fergies folllwed him for a wile is the press and what would they know about wat fergie does, stop believing everything a newspapaer writes. cleverley is miles better and so are the rest of our kids, ozil haves nothing that we dont already have at the club. and i love to upset you, we dont bid means we dont want him not your delusional childish we have no money rubbish.

we were talking about him prior tothe WC and got the same response from most – who?

Of course we need Ozil. There are a lot of questionmarks over our midfield. It’s barely adequate, particuarly if you take Hargreaves out of the equation and you are still wondering if Carrick can perform consistently and effectively over a season. Scholes and Giggs will be used sparingly and that leaves Fletcher, Gibson and Cleverly. No probs with Fletch but the other two are prospects only right now.

We’ve been through all these transfer shenanigans before with others. Let’s hope we can land this one as it looks like a bit of a bargain.
