Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that the club will indeed be signing goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard in the coming weeks.

Representatives of Lindegaard’s club Aalesund FK were in Manchester last week and talked up the chances of the deal being done yet nothing materialised but Sir Alex cleared up the situation, speaking ahead of tomorrow’s game with Rangers:

“It is not completed at the moment but there has not been a hiccup either. It will probably happen in the next two or three weeks, but the announcement was a bit premature.”

Lindegaard as well as Atletico Madrid’s David De Gea have both appeared as leading candidates to fill in between the sticks when Edwin Van Der Sar finally agrees to hang up his gloves but whilst Atletico moved to dispel talk of their keeper moving to Manchester, Aalesund have talked up the quality of their keeper and his abilities.

I can’t imagine this guy is going to be more than a back up goalkeeper. I have to believe we learnt our lesson from last time and won’t start experimenting. He looks a decent prosepect, but as a back-up, not the number 1. I think maybe Kuszchak might be leaving in January, maybe for Russia. Then this guy would take over as back-up to VDS until the end of the season. We need a top class and experince goalkeeper to replace VDS, someone like Buffon. We can get a young goalkeeper, but they need to be outstanding and have experience like Mauel Neurer.
