All things told, it’s been a bad week for the Reds. 0 points out of 6 and Nani’s injury has left many of us glancing nervously at the league table, checking up on Arsenal’s remaining fixtures and using our maths skills to try and estimate how many wins are needed to land the fabled 19th title.

Right now it’s all about looking forward, so let’s continue to do so, but in regards to off the pitch matters.

This summer will surely be a busy time for the Reds, as the squad gets a makeover which many will say is desperately needed – trophies or not.

Here’s a list of squad members who might possibly move on from Old Trafford in the summer.

Please note! I’m not implying these players should be sold, or will, merely the players who’s places at United are perhaps under threat.

Michael Owen – If the front four at the beginning of next season are Rooney, Berbatov, Chicharito and the returning Welbeck, does Owen have any future at the club?

Owen Hargreaves – Sad to say it, as he’s a great player, but you have to wonder if he’ll ever get back onto the pitch and playing regularly. How much longer can United live with hope rather than expectation?

Paul Scholes – Time catches up with every athlete. Will this be the great man’s final season?

Darron Gibson – He’s had a lot chances, but has never taken them. Worth keeping as a squad player, or time to cash in?

Tomas Kuszczak – Will surely need/want first-team football. With the arrival of Lindegaard and so many rumours about other goalkeepers signing for United, will he ever get it here?

Kiko Macheda and Mame Diouf – The same predicament as Michael Owen. Do they get games next season?

Wayne Rooney – A contentious one. A lot of United fans still feel resentment to “Wazza” over the nonsense at the beginning of the season, and he hasn’t had his best season. Would you take the risk of selling him and using the funds to strengthen the squad as a whole?

Michael Carrick – He’s just signed a new contract, but that hasn’t stopped the fans who aren’t in Carrick’s fan club to criticise him and declare that his best days are behind him. Could he be gone in the summer?

Ritchie de Laet – With the progression of the da Silva brothers, is the full-back position now too crowded for de Laet to get a look in?

Wes Brown – Wesley seems to have fallen out of favour a little, and with Chris Smalling doing well and with Jonny Evans in back-up, could this be the summer that he moves on?

Gabriel Obertan – Will he ever be good enough for United?

Bebe – Ditto, although would moving him on after only one season be harsh?

There’s a list of possibilities. For one day – you’re Sir Alex. Who goes – you decide!

I would like to see 5 of the above mentioned players sold in the summer.
    1. Wayne Rooney: Just doesn’t deserve to wear our shirt.
    2. Darron Gibson: Just not good enough for United. Hopefully will do well for some other club, unfortunately I cant see a future for him at United.
3.Micheal Owen: Can’t see him getting games even if Rooney is sold.
    4. Owen Hargreaves: Gutted about this one.
5.Wes Brown : Similar situation to Owen and plus he has fallen out of favor.

As for Kuszczak i hope we give him a chance but cant see Fergie risking the goalkeeper position again.

And for Diouf hope he also gets a chance cos he offers us something totally different to what we have.

agree with most but try nd understand SAF has made rooney to stay coz he is now among senior player after scholsey, giggsy nd nev are gone or might b going.
babe nd obetan sud go they do not have united class. and carrick just need to understand dat midfeilders’ job is to connect back line with forwards not forwards with back line or he should go and kiko should stay as he has dat class of pullinng out a stunner out of no where, doubt over gibson.

Obertan will probably be one of those squad players like Gibson is now, happy to be a occasional player at a big club. Gibson and Carrick should not be in the squad, though Carrick may be here to keep Fergie’s “old boys keeping an eye on things” theme going. Bebe will be given a couple of seasons at least. Not so sure what to make of Diouf’s chances here. May become victim to the profit making player farm mentality. Really hope Rooney gets his mojo back, if he can’t we should use the cash if any to bolster our lean center. Brown should be let go, playing him in so few games is useless for the club and the player. Macheda will probably get another season, maybe a loan at a PL club even. Kuszack, both Owens and Scholes are probably done with us.

  4. ManUtd #1 (Chicharito is a future ManUtd legend) says:

I would rather think of who could come in as Hargreaves is finished and besides him and Owen I cant really see who would go. Now as far as I am concerned, we have to buy Alexis Sanchez, and if the news from Argentina is true, Pastore would be a good buy. Only time will tell.

definatly agree with hargreaves and owen, they are being payed and not making the first team. as for bebe, he plays really well in the reserve games and scores goals but he just doesnt seem to be interested in the first team. the cenral midfeild has became a little boring over this last season. we definatly need a playmaker. like van der vart for spurs, fabregas for arsenal and yaya torey for shitty city. we need some life in the middle.

  6. dahunsi shola says:

i think w roony should stay.is now one of senior player.nd he did not scor enoug goal dis season but he assist alot. but carrik.babert, bebe, gibson,m owen nd w brw.are probaly done wit us.

Agree about Carrick, Owen and Hargreaves.

Sincerely hope Sralex turns a corner on Carrick and gets whatever he can for him. Weve waited nearly 3 years now for him to come good. Just think: if we had a player like Rodwell coming through the youth, would he play ahead of Carrick? Of course he would, and by miles. That means we play a weakened team. Time to admit defeat on this one and cut our losses.

My preference would be for an established player as I think our midfield has deteriorated too much. We need Schweinsteigger. stop.

Unfortunately, Owen never had a shot and with Hernandez coming good, is barely good enough for our reserve team.

As for selling the youngsters, that is crazy. Diouf has never even been a part of our squad, why sell him? I think we need to wait a couple more years on players like Gibson, Obertan, Macheda, De Laet, Bebe and Diouf. Ive always felt that we dont use out the loan system enough. I think premier league loans for them as well as Lindgaard or Kuszak would help us assess them better and give us more room in the squad to bring in some quality depth. If the loans dont work out, you can always sell them in a year or two.

Also, Welbeck and Cleverley should remain with us next season and be given chances in the first team. Just think how they could advance if they were given the chances that have been given to Obertan and Gibson.

Finally, allow me to submit a list of positions that I think we need to buy. First choice Keeper [Neuer], midfield engine [Schweinsteigger – can also play on the left], creative passer in midfield [Modric or Sneijder; but may be better to give that position to Cleverley for next season]. Would include Bale for left wing but I think Welbeck will be just as good.

i just read all the comments and want to say something regarding all the young players..

they are our future!!! i’m manutd fan since 97, and thing is, we’ve never had that talented reserve team since becks, scholes giggs and etc.

sir alex is a great coach, but he had some big failures on market, do you remember djemba djemba ? cleberson ? how possibly we could have sold pique, rossi or forlan ? it’s out of my mind.

this is era, when young players are taking over, that’s the thing ! i mean, obertan who is now what? 22 ? how much he should wait ? when casillas was 22 he had already 3 gold medals.. ronaldo ? why he was given that chance, to play for utd at age of 18 ? he was way better than obertan ? come on!!!

we need those guys, we need bebe, we need obertan, we need da silvas, we need diouf, we need all of them!!! its our future. and if question comes – 2 seasons not competing for titles or testing that great new talents i would chose 2nd cause, that would give as 10 more years on the high level.

    long live united.

Owen, Kusczack, Hargreaves and Bebe should be let go. Sir Alex should buy 4 players this summer. A GK, CB, LW and CM.

  10. carl says:

hargreves wasted 2years wages on him he shud go,kusczack, bebe, obertan, scholes, carrick, wes brown and michael owen should all be rid off in summer.NOT united class.we need world class players.bale in for giggs, pastore in,a essien type midfielder.and somebody like benzema
