Wayne Rooney tweeted earlier that Phil Jones was one of the hardest defenders he played against this season and in the tense 1-1 draw that saw United pick up the point that sealed the title, he showed exactly why.

After speculation linking him with Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs, Jones apparent opted for United and has been undergoing a medical at Carrington.

The deal is said to be worth £15m and his performance in May won’t have done his chances any harm as he put in a solid performance as Blackburn attempted to throw a spanner in United’s works.

This little clip shows the 19 year olds performance at Ewood Park that afternoon as he ran, tackled, blocked and headered in an attempt to keep United at bay following Brett Emerton’s first half goal.

Haha, the Scouser who uploaded it to YouTube (ElPistoleroJFT96) has now deleted the video.

Called him the best young defender in Britain, but no doubt now thinks he’s shit and overrated.

That’s how they are, this morning they were signing the new Jamie Carragher!

really good sighning but we should really be working on our central midfiels.
by the way fergie said his going to sighn three players
    david de gea
    jones
and ashley young does that mean his not going to sighn in central midfielders i hope not.

    Talented kid. Happy days

The lad looks like a player to me but surely overprced. Let’s not get too hung up on beating Liverpool to him. It is not an area that we really need to strengthen in. Midfield is the needier area. I am not sure about Yound as I doubt he brings us much new. I would prefer an established midfielder with a bit of class.
Otherwise, Goetze at Dortmund is the bes young talent around. Give me him before Modric (sick of buying of Spurs) or Scheijder (spelling)who would bring as many problems as he would solutions.
    Just an opinion.

It’s a good buy. Talent is talent and sometimes you just have to seize the opportunity when it comes along. No signing is guarantee for success, but given what he’s shown at such a young age, it’s about astute as you can hope for. But I’d agree and say I hope this doesn’t count as one of the promised 3 signings.

With rumoured Sunderland deal, we really won’t be overcrowded on defense. It’s pretty hard to be in that position in the first place and our recent defense crisis of 09-10 should remind people you can’t have a thin defensive corps. It’s being pragmatic that injuries happen, especially at CB and we should be prepared and not be whinners like Gunner fans when a player becomes injured (“man if Vermaalen wasn’t hurt…blah blah blah”).

That was a great potential future signing for united is utility player dat can play from back or midfied. But let go 4 d real point center midfieder no time to waist.

  8. Shina says:

That a good one especially the rumour surrounding the exist of some defenders, so midfieders are next on the agenda.

That game was the first time I really saw Jones play and he was fantastic, but frustrating because he was the main reason we couldn’t score that day. It was a shock to me that we signed him, but i’m glad.
