Are Manchester United planning a second raid of German champions Borussia Dortmund?

Having already secured the services of Shinji Kagawa, subject to the Japanese player obtaining a work permit and passing his medical, it appears United are ready to continue their summer spending in Germany with a move for Polish striker  Robert Lewandowski.

Lewandowski lead the German team’s charge to the title with 22 goals in the league and 30 overall, and with the departures of Michael Owen and Dimitar Berbatov all but set in stone, United could be in the market for a forward.

Lewandowski is a player who’s name has been linked with United previously, Sir Alex was in attendance as he hit a hat trick against Bayern Munich in the German Cup final, although talk of a move was played down by Dortmund.

But Polish manager  Franciszek Smuda has claimed the striker is set to reunite with team mate Kagawa at Old Trafford as he told Reuters:

“Lewy (Lewandowski) is going to Manchester United, Kuba (Jakub Blaszczykowski) also somewhere in England, (Lukasz) Piszczek to Real (Madrid).

“They have a goal and they want to grow. I base the squad on them.”

Is Smuda talking with inside knowledge from the players, or is this simply speculation?

with berba and owen leaving we need another forward and he looks like he could add something to the mix would love to see baines and modric along with tiote sign this summer they would be the answer to our problems .with baines puting evra under pressure for his place evra being one of the ones to blame for us being too casual in the cpl last season and if baines can step it up in europe he could be the new dennis irwin which would be great .kagawas signing will prove to be a great one but we were beaten in cpl and europa league aswell as at wigan and city by teams pressuring us on the ball thats were modrics ability to hold the ball and play a pass along with tiote kicking at the heels of any team that puts it up to us would be vital in returning us to where we belong.have a good feelin with the players we are being linked with that fergie is building something great if we do add these players to an already strong squad last season will just seem like a bad dream in a few seasons time.p.s one player i`m really looking forward to seeing next season will be vidic we missed our true leader he`s as important to utd now as keane was all those years ago.

I think the Poland manager had a bit to drink before the interview. Borussia Dortmund are a big club just so people know. The Poland manager seems to be selling all their top players. The terrific Lukasz Piszczek is supposedly going to Real Madrid as well, according to the Poland manager.

I saw Lewandowski play against Bayern Munich in the Cup final and score and terrific hat-trick. I watch the game to see Shinji Kagawa though. I don’t see this being true because I think we are changing the formation next season. I see us introducing a 4-2-3-1 formation a lot more next season. The key to the formation change will be Shinji Kagawa who will operate behind Rooney.

I can’t see us needing four strikers if we are only going to play one upfront more next season. Kagawa is not a 4-4-2 player and needs more freedom to be truly effective and at his creative best. I can see Ferguson focusing on trying to get Luka Modric to control the midfield and balance the team in the middle. Luka Modric alongside Michael Carrick would be interesting.

I would like to see both Kagawa and Modric signed this summer. I feel we should also get a young left back if one can be found rather than spending big on Leighton Baines. I feel Patrice Evra needs some more competition and rest through the season to get back to his best.

A player I feel we should sign, and I’ve been saying for a while, is Vasilis Torosidis. I think we could sign him for £5-6 million and he would be a bargain because of his versatility. He can play at right back and compete with Rafeal, left back and he can also play as a defensive midfielder.

Well said Andrew, if we are and it seems so, the 4-2-3-1 system will mean Wazza plays upfront so why on earth do we need another striker when we have the likes of the ever talented poacher Javier and the energetic Danny. Consider also that these two are at a yóung age and will develop further. Just to throw my 2p I with like use to consider a 4-3-2-1, which means we allow Javier to lead the line with Wazza and Kagawa behind him, giving we get Luka, then he could play in the middle with Carrick and who ever else I suppose. This still gives us a 5 man midfield but a very dominating/ attacking one at that.

Looks a good player but I don’t think we need another striker. Will Keane would of been part of the first team next season according to the Manager but sadly he won’t now due to his injury. I’d like to see John Cofie get a chance, he’s quick, strong and a good finisher so maybe the Manager will give him a go in pre season to see how he does.

I would have to agree with Andrew and Gavin above in that we do not need another striker. Lewandowski is a good striker as he showed yeasterday with his goal. However we would be harming the development of Welbeck and Hernandez.

We will probably introduce a 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-2-1 formation next season. We signed Kagawa to be the play-maker behind Rooney. We have the option of using Rooney as the number 10 behind Welbeck or Hernandez as well.

I do hope we can sign Luka Modric, but also Nick Powell because he is a talented boy and can play in a couple of roles. He can play upfront or even in the play-maker role and he is only 18. If we don sign him then I see him being part of the squad like Chamberlain was for Arsenal last season.

  8. Jonny says:

A very good striker but we don’t need any more strikers. We have Rooney, Welbeck and Hernandez already. We also have youngsters like Will Keane, who will hopefully fully recover from his injury, and John Cofie for the future. We might also sign Nick Powell and he can play as a striker.

We need to focus our efforts and transfer funds in signing Luka Modric. We also need someone to cover at full back. I saw someone above mentioned Vasilis Torosidis and I remember we were linked with him in January. I saw him play right back for Greece against Poland. I did some Google search on the lad and he has a reputation for being versatile and a managers dream. I think for £6 million it would be a smart addition.

    ……………De Gea…………..

    Rafeal…..Evans……Vidic……Evra

    ……….Carrick…..Modric……….

    Valencia…….Kagawa……….Young

    ……………Rooney…………..

Squad; Lindergaard, Jones, Smalling, Ferdinand, Torosidis, Fryers, Cleverley, Scholes, Fletcher, Giggs, Nani, Brady, Powell, Welbeck, Hernandez

Out: Berbatov (£7 million), Anderson (£7 million), Park (£3.5 million), Macheda (£2 million), De Laet and Mat James (£2 million to Leicester).

  9. Hey there outstanding blog! Does running a blog like this take a great deal
of work? I’ve no expertise in coding however I had been hoping to start my own blog soon. Anyways, should you have any ideas or tips for new blog owners please share. I understand this is off topic but I just needed to ask. Cheers!
