Mike Phelan has encouraged Manchester United to do better in Europe after last season’s ‘blip’ in the Champions League.
United crashed out of Europe at the group stage after being handed one of the kinder draws, being placed with Benfica, Galati and Basel.
They then went on to be dominated by Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League, but assistant manager Phelan is expecting a better showing from the side this year.
Another reasonable draw sees United sees United grouped with Braga, Cluj and Galatasaray and Phelan expects United to improve on their showing this time around as he told ManUtd.Com:
“Europe’s always big at this football club.
“The traditions are set within the European boundaries for Manchester United and we know we have to do better.
“We let Europe slip from our grasp too easily last year. The players are conscious and aware of that, although we haven’t dwelled on it as that wouldn’t be positive.
“We’ve put it down as a blip, but we know we have to do better.”
