Where do Manchester United & Rooney Go Now?

Sky Sports News are reporting that Manchester United have rejected a bid from Chelsea this morning.

Manchester United have remained adamant that Rooney is not for sale, especially not to Chelsea and are said to have expressed this to the London club when rejecting their bid.

It has not been confirmed what Chelsea’s bid entailed but the certain and swift response from United leads many to believe that it was below any figure United would potentially consider to do business at.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has courted Rooney this summer, but when asked on Rooney again Jose simply replied:

“This is a period when the big clubs and their managers are connected with everything.
“Until August 31, that’s the oldest story in football, rumours and rumours. At the end, something comes true.”

Chelsea remain favourites to sign the striker, but with United’s stance will they be able to prise the striker away from Old Trafford?

EDIT: James Ducker of The Times claims the offer was £10m & Mata or Luiz whilst Jamie Jackson of The Guardian believed the deal only allowed United the option to buy either player.

Its beter Moyes sale him before he becomes a flope. And to avoid loosing him a free agent. Let moyes use d money and buy either fab or Lewandoski. Or even both. They wl add smthing beter than keeping an unhapy man

  2. andrew says:

the mail reckon it was 10 mil plus mata or david luiz. id say keep the 10 mill and giveus both. surely chelsea wouldnt swap nata for rooney though???

Next time, return with $100m, may be we shall speak the same language! Lound and clear

It sounds as though Utd are going to sell Rooney, sooner rather than later. They’ll probably try for some kind of swap deal with Fabregas before they consider selling to Chelsea. As a Utd fan I’d rather we kept Rooney, but as an England fan I rather he went somewhere and got the playing time he needs. He’s too good a talent to be kept on the bench.

Well said red alistair.I’m a chelsea fan and can’t understand the criticism I’ve read from man utd fans of rooney.he is class and will make any team stronger.good to see some of you still realise how important he has been for united!

  5. Kanyisani says:

David Moyes was not supposed to make those comments anyway we all know that Wayne is better than Van Persie, lets not forget all the years wayne has sacrificed for United, this man has played every position asked to played even accomadated CR7 for the good of the team, I say lets keep Wayne Rooney happy at United he is our catalyst

On the Rooney issue Moyes asked the press if they thought he was speaking double dutch. Now we all know, it was a forked tongue.

  6. Skido Ubeh says:

Rooney is not the striker that Chelsea need because I don’t see him fitting into Morinhoe’s coaching and striking pattern.

  7. thunder says:

in as much as we need rooney we’l never exchange him with mata or luiz cos they’re rated higher “yes higher” than rooney. dis are all stupidity

  8. obie united says:

10 million pounds wit mata is gonna be a gud piece of business pls lets sell him dan 2 keep an unhappy player @ d club. We need sum1 like mata in our team 2 bolster our midfield wit his killer passes. I tink rooney is past his peak

  9. luwilili says:

i think this Moyes is stupid nd 4 sure this is the end of united’ era…we all know that Rooney is better than Van Persie nd Rooney has done a lot of hard work 4 united,he deserves better.am starting to doubt this new management..i hate u Moyes,u cant even make your own decisions..ur a flop

    • brian says:

Well i think moyes should better be clear about rooney let him sell him if he feels he is not good enough for united but we all know rooney has been the difference between united and the other pl clubs.

  10. Abdullahi says:

David Moyes is totally wrong in given a public abuse to a player that has been loyal to a club 4 9 yrs, its not easy 4 a player that dedicated 9 yrs to a club & at d end open mouth to say all these abt him U’ll agree wit me that majority of goals scored by RVP last season assisted by WR bcus he is nt selfish in given pass to RVP, why then they re rejecting offer frm other club? He said he is nt good enough to b his first XI that can only b considered if RVP is injured then let him go to where he ll b consider good enough to b in first XI, look Man U can not b taller & shorter than Rooney simultaneously, its nt possible, they should let him leave.
