I thought the club had banned the social networking site Twitter but it seems Rio Ferdinand will occupy his summer by tweeting his fans and today he underwent a quick Q & A session with his followers.
Got some interesting answers out of our #5 and it’s great to see our players interacting with the fans.
Q: What other sports (if any) do you do in your spares time to relax and unwind?
Rio Ferdinand: Table tennis @ da training ground and short tennis. And yes, I am no.1 in both sports (before da injury of course!)
Q: what’s your fav tune to listen to before a match?
RF: Forever by Drake – ‘I wanna play at this level forever’ is the way I use the chorus of dat track. And that inspires me!
Q: what’s your favorite NBA team?
RF: Bulls from the Jordan days – best player 2 ever play the game. Also, Chicago Bulls
Q:Who’s the hardest player you’ve ever played against and why?
RF: Raul when I played against him for Utd vs Madrid away. He was hard 2pick up, he played away from u so u couldn’t tackle him but he was passin thru us. Top pro!
Q: What would you have done with your life if you hadn’t become a footballer?
RF: I’d of worked with my mates 4 the council on the youth clubs helping the kids where i grew up in peckham
Q: What’s your favourite soap?
RF: Eastenders – spoken like a true Londoner!
Q: Are you any good at darts?
RF: I’m no Phil the power taylor but I can hold my own!
Q: What was your fav subject in school?
RF: PE and drama – cos I was blessed with da skills to pay the bils at both!
Q: what’s your happiest football moment?
RF: Makin my debut for West Ham, liftin the prem league and champ league trophies for Utd and representing my country – in no order!
Q: Do you enjoy watching sports [particularly football] as much as you love playing it?
RF: Yeah, am a sports fanatic. I watch loads of football, tennis, NFL, boxing….anything really!
Q: who would you like to play the role of you in a film about your life?
RF: It’s gotta be Will Smith – he’s the only man for the job. And he’s almost as cool as me! Jokes
Q: Who would you like to see England play in the final?
RF: Really don’t mind as long as we win!!
Q: what is your favourite hairstyle to date?
RF: i’ve had some shockers, as we all do, the blonde weren’t the best! Fave is prob as it is now!
Q: what would be your advice to an aspiring 18 year old footballer?
RF: Always work hard on your strengths and weaknesses, make sacrifices off the field and always remain confident. No matter how great a player you are – without confidence, you ain’t that great.
Q: did u love being in south africa and will u come back?
RF: Loved it (bar the injury moment) and yeah, am aiming to go back and support the lads!
Q: Who is the best trainer at Utd? I reckon Scholesy
RF: Spot on! Legend!
Q: Beyonce or Rihanna?
RF: Too tough to choose!!!
Q: What was the first CD you ever bought?
RF: It was a record luv! Was the bad album, MJ. And new kids on the block. Yeah, and what. They were ledge! ha
Q: whats the best thing about being a player with man utd?
RF: U get to run out in front of 70/80 thousand people each week. Unreal feelin! Each time becoming etched further into da history of the club!
Q: what’s it like in the england camp? Hopefully the mood is uplift!
RF: Good, the lads are looking forward to the next game!
Q: button or hamilton?
RF: Tough one that! Hamilton for his aggressiveness at taking people on. Button for his cool, calm, collectedness!
Q: who’s the best at ping-pong yourself, ronaldo or nani?
RF: Nani would like to be in that 1,2,3 but he just ain’t done enough yet! He ain’t ready!
